The claim, considered carefully

A move is complicated.
Your next step can be clear.

Start with what happened and the coverage you had—not an assumption that every type of damage is covered. Julio helps connect the records to the right insurance questions.

01

Homeowners & renters coverage

Review how your policy treats personal belongings away from home, in transit, or in temporary storage. The cause of loss, location, limits, and deductible all matter.

02

Insurance purchased for the move

Keep the full insurance policy and endorsements, plus any certificate, item schedule, declared values, and purchase records. Separate moving insurance can have its own claims requirements.

03

Business property relocation

Document affected furniture, equipment, and inventory, along with ownership and condition. Commercial property or transit coverage needs its own policy review.

Moving-company valuation protection and an insurance policy are different products. Keep both sets of documents so the coverage you purchased can be identified accurately. Ordinary breakage is not automatically covered by homeowners insurance.

A useful place to begin

Before the boxes
disappear.

A few organized records can make a complicated loss easier to explain. Photograph damage and packaging, keep the paperwork, and make an item-by-item inventory.

    The move record

Pickup and delivery dates, addresses, inventory lists, packing records, and photographs from before and after the move.

  2. 02
    The damaged or missing items

Descriptions, quantities, purchase dates, receipts, model or serial numbers, and available pre-loss photos.

  3. 03
    The insurance documents

Homeowners, renters, commercial, or separately purchased moving insurance, including endorsements and item schedules.

  4. 04
    The claim file

Insurer correspondence, claim number, repair findings, replacement information, and receipts for necessary protective expenses.

How it works

From uncertainty
to a supported claim.

Get organized, understand the coverage questions, and present the loss clearly to the insurer.

01

Tell the story of the move

Discuss the property, timeline, discovered damage, and claim status.

02

Connect items to evidence

Build a clear inventory with ownership, condition, and repair or replacement support.

03

Work through the claim

Present the supported claim and communicate with the insurer under the agreed representation.

Representation for the policyholder.

A public adjuster works for the insured in the property insurance claim process. Julio helps organize the evidence, prepare and present the claim, and communicate with the insurer on your behalf.

Questions, answered

Know your
next step.

Practical answers before the first conversation.

Will my homeowners policy pay for damage during a move?

It depends on the policy and the cause of loss. Some coverage may follow belongings away from home, but off-premises limits, deductibles, and exclusions can apply. Accidental packing or handling breakage is not automatically covered.

Is the protection on my moving paperwork an insurance policy?

Not always. Valuation protection and separately purchased insurance are different. Keep the contract and any insurance certificate or policy so the insurer, coverage, and claim process can be identified.

Can I ask about a business move?

Yes. You can discuss damaged furniture, business equipment, or inventory and the insurance purchased for those items. Commercial property and transit policies have their own insured-property definitions, limits, and conditions.

What should I do when I notice damage?

Photograph the item and packaging, make a factual itemized list, preserve available records, and notify the relevant insurer promptly. Follow the policy’s duties and deadlines; do not discard evidence before discussing inspection when practical.

What if I already received an offer or denial?

Bring the insurer’s explanation, policy, inventory, and supporting records. Julio can discuss whether representation is appropriate. Deadlines, releases, and evidence may affect the available options.

What are the fees?

The scope of work and fee are explained in a written agreement before representation begins. Start with a conversation about the loss and whether the service fits the claim.
